The Lake Placid Region is best known as the two time site for the Winter Olympics in the year 1932, and 1980. The village also hosted a variety of world class sporting events such as the ESPN Outdoor Games, Empire State Games, the Iron man Triathalon, International Figure Skating and the ""I Love NY"" Horse Shows. Lake Placid boasts a plethora of historic, artistic and cultural attractions amongst which Uihlein Sugar Maple Station, John Brown State Historical Site, Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society/Museum, the Robert Louis Stevenson Cottage in Saranac Lake, Greystone House Museum and Gardens in Essex, and Fort Ticonderoga are the most visited one. The Colonial Theatre of Keene and the Adirondack Museum in Saranac Lake are other two noteworthy attractions around the village.

Lake Placid is home to many popular festivals and events of the Tri-Lakes region. It hosts Fleming Leaves Festival in autumn season, a two-day annual event that offers many exciting activities - from ski competitions, to live blue bands to tempting barbeque and brews. During festive time, all Lake Placid vacation rentals remain fully occupied therefore it is good to get the vacation rental booked before your arrival date. Another major event that village celebrates is the Annual Winter Carnival of Saranac Lake, which offers a fascinating array of sporting events including snowshoeing, broomball, hockey, volleyball and competitive display of traditional logging skills.
